The Grateful Dead
LP by Grateful Dead
Studio Recordings - 1 CD
Warner Bros 1967 3/17
The first Grateful Dead album, recorded in 4 days on 3-track equipment, and mixed in 1 day. The cryptic lettering on the cover reads:
"In the land of the dark the ship of the sun is driven by the Grateful Dead"
Though often criticized for
it's faster than usual tempo, this album effectively captures the fervor that became a Grateful Dead hallmark. It includes a sample of their extended jamming abilities, fine vocal performances, and several songs that remained in the setlist throughout
their career.
